Edit Demo Critique

Master Shot Sequence: I wrote the script and Alejandro did most of the shooting. The concept of master shot sequence is portrayed pretty well in the video because the dramatic storyline proved to fit just perfectly in with the different shots of master shot sequence. My establishing shot was a long shot on Actress #1, who is me, and then you see a long shot of Actress #2, and finally, both of them walking out together using a long shot. The establishing shot goes well with the script as well because audience is just getting a glimpse of the drama and it reveals one of the character (Actress #2) and mysterious for Actress #1. After the establishing shot, we have the waist shot of each of them facing each other ready to talk. While they are talking, we used the technique of over the shoulder/reverse shot. Finally, we have the close up because while revealing the truth, the close up of the character reveals their reactions. I also put in extreme close up when there is a moment that is to the extreme like the actress #2 finds out whom her dad is (most creative shot). The only problem I had with shooting this piece was the audio. There was some parts where the microphone got shut off and because of the time limits, we could not reshoot the scene so I used the narrative part and covered the absence of the missing sound. In the edits, I put together the piece exactly how I envisioned it. The background noises did not help in the first scene where Actress #2 was in the classroom. Also, in the empty room where they were talking, there was a lot of echoing which makes it hard for the audience to listen. Therefore, the voice over narration helped covered a lot of the audio difficulties we had. The voice over narration also helped explain what the concept is and how I am demonstrating it.

Rhythmic Match: Alejandro wrote the script and I did most of the shooting. At first, Alejandro envisioned the film to just be a combination of the different sounds but in the editing part, we both decided to add music to demonstrate the match of the actions and sounds. The story fits well with the background music so it demonstrates the concept. Our problems for both pieces were the audio. In this piece, the audio was so soft that you wouldn’t be able to hear anything. Luckily, there is a feature that you can turn the audio louder which definitely saved us the trouble of reshooting it. The actors were shot pretty well but because we were in the classroom, there is people walking around which distracted us from the main piece (like Mr. Bigue walking and throwing his garage away). Our most creative shot is when I tripped and unplugged the cord accidently and the music completely stops and there was a change of music afterwards. In the edit, I found music and mixed and match them with the video to see which fits in the best with the storyline. It didn’t prove to be hard and problems were minor and we both finished our project on time.
